Believe in Buttonwood
Established in 1969, the Buttonwood Park Zoological Society (BPZS) supports the overall mission of the Zoo, especially in the area of education. They do this through fundraising efforts as well as revenue from memberships, room rentals and functions, rides and concessions. The Zoo manages the gate admission as it is owned and operated by the City of New Bedford.
BPZS supports the salaries of the Zoo’s education staff, but help also comes from community volunteers from the local high schools and businesses, and, most notably, Bristol County Savings Bank.
Each year, over 8,750 school children in grades K - 12 participate in school field trips to the Zoo. Of that number, more than 2,500 receive focused educational programming. Approximately 4,400 of the field trip participants are New Bedford students of whom 1,200 receive the educational programming.
The Buttonwood Park Zoo is also a wonderful venue for private and corporate functions. Birthday parties, rehearsal dinners, civic group gatherings, corporate outings and retreats are but a few options.
The café and classrooms can be transformed to suit your themed event. Rides on the carousel and train, as well as animal encounters, are additional selections that add to your unique experience.
