On Tuesday, February 21, is the first day of four fun packed days. All you kids out there, prepare your creativity and get ready to work with clay, glass, tie dye, and crafts and make some beautiful art! Themes can be designed by each student according to interests, the choice yours. Bring the family and have a blast while learning.
Tie Dye Ages 6-9
Anything white: Let’s dye it! Have some fun at this workshop learning the different designs you can make through tie dying white fabric. T-Shirts, socks, pillow cases etc. Bring materials from home and/ or specify T-shirt size when you register.
Plastic Fusion Ages 10-13
Ever hear of glass fusing or the artist Dale Chihuly? We will use Chihuly art to inspire melted, molten and fused plastic creations such as window art, brooches, and ornaments. Start collecting your recycled plastics now. Examples are plastic file folder labels, sharpie pen caps, water bottles,spoons and forks in a multitude of colors. Watch how your design is transformed from miscellaneous recyclable plastic to art creations!
Clay Monsters Ages 10-13
Grab some clay, get creative and build your own clay monster. Mythical beasts, gargoyles, dragons, griffins and hybrid animals are the focus today. This clay workshop is all about the bizarre while learning hand building techniques and experimenting with non-toxic glazes. Dress to get dirty. Aprons available.
If Animals Could Talk...Ages 10-13
Students will learn about the plight of homeless domestic animals from a local animal shelter guest speaker. They will create artwork to be hung at the facility to develop community awareness. Reflections on lives with their pets or imagined stories from animals will jump start their inspirations.
Play with Paper and Make Boots Ages 6-9
Have fun learning how to make paper from cotton and recycled paper. Add ribbons, glitter, yarn and flower petals for color and texture. Create stencils and shape within the sheet. Create pop up and accordion books with your very own story, words, artwork, and pictures!
Dive Under the Sea: 3D Explorium Ages 6-9
Put on your wet suit before swimming down under to explore the ocean. After our learning adventure at the New Bedford Ocean Explorium we will be putting our 2D and 3D creative skills to work and building your own underwater habitats using all types of found materials. Using found and recycled materials in art is one way to keep our oceans clean and healthy.
Clay: All Techniques Ages 14-18
Come learn about all the different clay hand building techniques and wheel throwing while making cool personalized art. You will create sketches to get inspired and brainstorm with the group. Wear your messy clothes because we are going to dig in and get our hands dirty. Aprons are available.
Art Deco VS Art Nouveau Jewelry Ages 10-13
Come learn about the different art styles between Art Deco (Geometric shapes) and Art Nouveau (Organic shapes). Create jewelry pieces as unique as its maker. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, pendants and key chains!
Stuffed Creatures Ages 10-13
Design, sew, stuff, and stitch your very own creature buddy. Give it a personality through fabric /textiles or a unique face using paper, fabric, or buttons.
Safari Animal Masks:Adventure Masks Ages 6-9
Hop in the jeep and take a safari ride through Africa. You will learn all about African animals and create your own animal masks to blend in with your wild side. Experiment with mixed materials in this 2D and 3D workshop.
Mix it Up: Explore Multiple Mediums Ages 14-18
Let’s draw, paint, print, and build as we mix it up and explore different artistic mediums through this creative workshop for teens looking to have some fun and make personalized art. We will look at contemporary visual artists and positive fun messages.
