The Environment Council of Rhode Island and the Greater Providence Urban Agriculture Task Force are convening the 2012 Rhode Island Compost conference at Trade Show on February 27 at Hope Artiste Village 1005 Main St in Pawtucket. This is the third compost conference convened by ECRI and the Urban Ag task force, with a growing audience each year.
Rhode Island has seen growth in its compost industry over the last few years, and is poised for a major take off. Cities and towns are concerned about the costs of trash disposal, the smell at the landfill in Johnston this past fall reminded the community that we need a better solution than just burying trash, Orbit Energy continues to move forward in its efforts to build a food scrap fueled electric power plant, and small scale compost innovations are popping up all over. The compost conference and trade show on February 27 will highlight Rhode Island progress and businesses involved in the industry.
