SMFC Announces Spring Concert Tribute - American Homecoming
This season, the SMFC presents a very special concert event that celebrates the return of so many of our men and women serving in the military! Entitled American Homecoming, the event will be a joyful celebration of our country’s proud heritage and a stirring tribute to our nation’s armed forces. With one hundred voices and live professional orchestra, the two-hour musical program will be held on May 19 and 20 at locations in Taunton and Bridgewater.
The concert will feature familiar patriotic anthems such as Battle Hymn of the Republic, Salute to the Armed Forces, God Bless the USA, and a rousing medley of This Land is Your Land, Grand Old Flag and This is My Country. The program will also include several stirring selections to honor our veteran and active military such as the new arrangement based on the Navy Hymn, Prayer for Our Time, the classic folk-pop favorite, He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother, the stirring lament from Les Miserables, Bring Him Home, and to honor our heroes lost in battle, the beautiful and moving Blades of Grass and Pure White Stone.
The event will seek to raise awareness and funds for locally-based, national veterans’ charity, Homes for Our Troops. The organization builds specially adapted homes for those who have given to our country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries. SMFC has been following the progress of a Massachusetts soldier receiving one of these homes very soon and will send a group to his new home’s groundbreaking in April.
