As the South Coast gets ready to go back to school next month, several towns are still sorting out how to pay for the same services they had last year—some with fewer teachers. The past five years have left South Coast school districts with tough choices.
As Fairhaven Superintendent Robert N. Baldwin said during that town’s budget process, after years of cutting operational budgets there’s simply nothing left to cut except staff.
And Fairhaven is not alone.
Half of the South Coast school districts had to eliminate teaching positions in FY2013.
