In celebrating America’s rural and maritime traditions, musicians have long relied on instruments such as pianos, banjos, and mandolins to shape their sagas and tell their stories. Step back in time and crisscross the country on a musical tour of 19th and early 20th Century America with musicians Margaret Ulmer (piano) and James Dalton (banjo and mandolin). Their program features traditional minstrel and folk tunes, Scott Joplin’s ragtime dances, and works of John Jacob Niles, Ruth Crawford Seeger, and Paul Bowles, among others.
